UCEED (Undergraduate Common Entrance Exam for Design) is a national-level entrance exam conducted by IIT Bombay for admissions into their Bachelor of Design (B.Des) programme. Other participating institutes include IIT Bombay, IIT Guwahati, and IIITDM Jabalpur.
The exam tests the candidates' aptitude in design, visual perception ability, creativity, communication skills, problem-solving skills, among others. UCEED has three sections, which are Numerical Answer Type (NAT), Multiple Select Questions (MSQ), and Multiple Choice Questions (MCQ). The test duration is three hours, and the exam has a total of 300 marks. The UCEED scorecard is valid for one year, and candidates can apply for admission through the UCEED scorecard to the respective institutes.
Candidates from any stream (Science/Commerce/Arts) can apply for UCEED, however, it is recommended that the candidate should have pursued Mathematics in their 10+2 curriculum. There is no age limit to appear for the exam. Moreover, foreign nationals and NRIs holding a foreign passport can also apply for UCEED, but the eligibility criteria for them might vary.
The exam consists of two parts:
Part A and Part B.
-Part A is a computer-based test consisting of questions from various areas such as visualization and spatial ability, observation and design sensitivity, analytical and logical reasoning, language and creativity.
-Part B is a pen and paper-based test consisting of drawing, sketching and design-related questions.
-The exam is of three hours and is conducted in English medium only.
-Candidates should have passed the 10+2 examination from a recognized board or should be appearing for it.
-The exam is open to all nationalities.
-The examination fee for candidates belonging to the General/OBC-NCL category is INR 3,000 while for SC/ST/PwD candidates, it is INR 1,500.
